Dambra Sabato, Ray's friend and the director of the very successful "Monday Night Monologues" series in Atlantic City, wrote this about him:
"Ray Croce is a master of illusion, a seducer of audiences. A form-fitting, shape-shifting, always believable chameleon, he is the consummate character actor."
Ray Croce has always been a "character." Just ask the nuns who taught him in grade school. He went on to prove it in his first show, Godspell, in 1993. It did not take him long to realize he had found a home on stage. Since that show he has gone on to appear in close to 60 productions from Philadelphia to Atlantic City. His dialects and physical humor make him a natural character actor, and he has shown a penchant for comedy, The fact that he has several crazy people running around inside of his head doesn't hurt either.
No stranger to drama, he counts as his favorites his roles as Deputy Governor Danforth in The Crucible, R.P. McMurphy in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and Edgar Evans in Terra Nova (for which he won a "Best Supporting Actor" Award). Ray can also be seen from time to time in the Off-Broadway hit Tony and Tina's Wedding in Philadelphia, where he plays the role of Tony's dad.
After years on stage, Ray has recently taken his seat in the director's chair having mounted successful productions of Christopher Durang's Beyond Therapy and Jane Martin's Anton in Show Business. In addition to acting, Ray is also an accomplished Martial Artist who holds a Third Degree Black Belt in the Goju Ryu Karate. In 2001 he was inducted in World Karate Union's Hall of Fame.
Despite these credits, Ray counts his two children, Ray Jr. and Monica, as his greatest accomplishments. They keep him young and grounded, plus they take care of things around the house while he's out playing.
